Fw: St. André Cathedral, Bordeaux

Here is a picture I found online of what must be the back of St. André Cathedral in Bordeaux.  The part Tish and Harry and I saw looked nothing like this, must have been the front.  They compare it to Notre Dame in Paris in structure.   It says Eleanor of Aquitaine was married here in 1137 when she was 15, to Louis VII, before she became queen of France.  One of her sons was Richard the Lion-Hearted.  She had ten children, with her two husbands.

Chateau Milande

This is the café, gardens, and the side of Chateau Milande, home at one time of American singer Josephine Baker and her twelve adopted children from all different countries, and her husband.  We enjoyed seeing a bird show there also, with beautiful big owls and hawks and an American eagle.

NANETTE - Here are Tish and Harry
in Barcelona Harbor and George and friend in Carcassone.

Tish's Favorites

> Biarritz - I loved the blue Atlantic, the ocean breeze, and watching the surfers while having a delicious lunch of scallops St. Jacques!

Harry's Favorites

I especially enjoyed the views from Domme and the Chateau of Beynac & Castlenaud. The Falconry show at Chateau DES Milandes was incredible. Chateau DES Milandes appeared to be the most livable in the modern era. The Valley of the Vultures was interesting. The "French" vultures are prettier than ours!

SUMMARY..... Since we all went in different directions and had different experiences, I'm going to ask each traveller to post their favorite or most memorable photo to this site for all to see. I hope to do this at the airport before we board the plane tomorrow. If you've enjoyed this travel blog, please leave a comment for all the travelers to see. Suzanne and Betsy, we've enjoyed your comments!!

Sunday - traditional Spanish dinner

Paella and sangria

Sunday - Gaudi's cathedral - a work in progress

Barcelona - marina

Here's a panoramic - remember it's not really to scale.

Sunday - at the waterfront ...

... There's a statue of Columbus - at the place where he was welcomed back from the new world in 1493. I understand that he is not pointing in the correct direction (west). There is also supposed to be an elevator inside you can ride to the top - but it must be very tiny...

Sunday - La Rambles at 9am

This tourist and shopping area used to be a river running to the port, but was filled in to create a road and pedestrians walkways.

Sunday - Barcelona

Where the action is....

Saturday - Cacassonne - inside

There were lots of alabaster carvings and stones on display inside a few of the rooms. There were a few tomb covers and this one tomb of an unknown Templar knight - I think...or it could have been a Cathar knight, but am not sure.

Saturday - Cacassonne

Couldn't get a photo of the outside of this medieval walled city because we were in a taxi. It almost looks unreal - just like something out of a storybook. Here's a picture of some of the wall. We were able to get into the castle free because it's Patrimony Day and it's open to the public.

Friday - Chateau Beynac

View from The chateau down into the Dordogne valley - tres jolie, n'est-ce pas?

Friday - Chateau Beynac

This is the chateau on the cliffs above our hotel. It was very interesting. Parts of the Joan of Arc movie were made here.
